Understanding Journey
A journey allows you to automatically trigger a sequence of push notifications when a user performs a specific action or meets a specific condition, and cancel the notifications when a user achieves designated goal.
To ensure effective engagement with the users and drive desired outcome, you will need to consider the following factors before you create a journey.
Define your goal (ex. sign-up, purchase)
Set target audience (ex. non-registered users, users with a product added to cart)
Most effective send time (ex. 3 days after a user adds a product to cart)
Messages you want to deliver
After you have defined your goal, target audience, and preferred send time, you will need to enter this information into FlareLane.
Steps for creating a journey | Naming on FlareLane | Note |
---|---|---|
Set Target Audience | Entry Rule | Defines to whom to send push notifications |
Designate a Goal | Exit Rule | Defines when to stop sending push notifications |
Send Time | Wait Time | Defines when to send push notifications |
Create Messages | Message | Defines push notifications to be sent to the devices |
See below to get a detailed understanding on how each factor works to activate a journey.
Entry Rule & Exit Rule
There are two types of entry & exit rules: Event-based and Segment-based. Choose an appropriate type based on your push marketing strategy.
Event-based
Events are actions a user performs in the app or website, such as sign-up or purchase.
A user will enter the journey when the user performs the designated entry rule or action, and be removed from the journey when the user performs the designated exit rule or action. You can choose one or more actions as the exit rule.
For example:
A user will enter the journey when the user adds a product to cart (add_to_cart event).
The user will be removed from the journey when the user makes a purchase (purchase event) or deletes a product from the cart (delete_from_cart event).
Segment-based
Segments used in the journey are conditions or inactions of the users, such as not visited for 3 months or not purchased.
A user will enter the journey when the user meets the designated entry rule or condition, and be removed from the journey when the user no longer meets the designated condition. Unlike event-based rules, the exit rules for segment-based rules are fixed.
For example:
A user will enter the journey in case the user has subscribed to push notifications more than 1 hour ago but have not signed-up.
The user will be removed from the journey in case the user no longer meets the above condition, specifically when the user signs-up.
Wait Time
Choose the timing for sending each message.
Every message will wait for the specified time period before being sent, and prior to sending the message, it will verify if a device meets the exit rule. The message will not be sent to the devices that meet the exit rule.
If you set the wait time to '0 minutes', the message will be sent immediately without checking if the device satisfies the exit rule.
Message
Insert text, image and url. You can Personalize Messages using variables and create message A/B tests.
